ULTRASOUND FOR INTENSIVE
CARE (USIC) courses will be delivered in 1/3 theory and 2/3
practical sessions
The UTS USIC courses are designed
for intensivists with little or no prior ultrasound experience.
The USIC course is overseen by
Dr. Andrew Hilton, consultant
intensivist.
Due to overwhelming participant
feedback, the Ultrasound for Intensive Care courses
have been extended in 2010 to incoporate more practical scanning
time.
Course objectives
At the conclusion of this course
you will be able to:

Understand the physical principles and artifacts of ultrasound

Understand basic Doppler physics principles and Doppler
artifacts

Gain experience in navigating the ultrasound system and
its features

Demonstrate proficiency in performing and interpreting
basic bedside ultrasound scans

Understand practical applications and limitations of
abdominal and pleural fluid collection assesment

Demonstrate basic practical proficiency in vascular access
through experience gained through the use of ultrasound
phantoms

Understand key concepts of haemodynamic assessment in
the ICU

Gain a basic understanding of cardiac ultrasound principles

Gain skills in basic haemodynamic assessment and colour
