Advanced Emergency Medicine
Ultrasound (AEMU) courses will be delivered with a focus on
practical sessions
The AEMU course is designed for
candidates who have previously completed an introductory ultrasound
course and who wish to extend their scanning skills.
The AEMU course is overseen by
Dr. Jack Spencer and Dr.
Adam Bystrzycki, consultant emergency physicians.
Course objectives

To further extend and increase confidence in practical
scanning skills

Consolidate knowledge of right upper quadrant ultrasound
-
Provide an introduction to DVT ultrasound and scanning
technique
-
Provide a revision of ultrasound guided needle techniques
including an introduction to peripheral nerve blocks
-
Provide scanning skills in transabdominal assessment
of 1st trimester pregnancy
-
Provide scanning skills in identifying acute male and
female pelvic emergencie - e.g. ovarian torsion and acute
scrotum

Practical session – kidneys and bladder

– introduction to basic physics of Doppler and
knobology
DVT ultrasound – sonographic appearances and technique
Nerve ultrasound – sonographic appearances and
technique
Practical session – DVT ultrasound
Practical session –
vascular access using ultrasound phantoms

nerve anatomy

Acute pelvic pathology – female
